Meguro Ward is located to the west of Tokyo’s central six wards and south of Shibuya Ward. Known for its abundance of luxury residences, Meguro Ward offers a tranquil, relaxed, and safe living environment, making it a beloved choice for many foreigners. Flowing from Setagaya Ward through Meguro Ward and Shinagawa Ward, the Meguro River flows through various rivers within Tokyo and finally emptying into Tokyo Bay. The cherry blossom-lined paths along its banks are well-known as popular attractions.
Highlights of the Ward
In Meguro Ward, the most representative station is Naka-Meguro Station. Every year during cherry blossom season, many people visit the banks of the Meguro River here to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing). It is Tokyo’s most famous and popular hanami spot. Jiyugaoka Station which is also located on the Tokyu Toyoko Line is another well-known residential area celebrated for its unique atmosphere and bustling shopping streets. In addition to serene luxury residential areas, Meguro Ward is home to numerous foreign embassies and schools, including prestigious campuses like the Komaba campus of the University of Tokyo and the Ookayama campus of the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
