Basic Information
Koto Ward is located in the southeastern part of Tokyo’s 23 wards, close to the Sumida River and Tokyo Bay. It ranks seventh in size and is an area rich in history and full of modern vibrancy. Known as “City of Water” in Tokyo, Koto Ward has a well-developed network of waterways. With the development of the waterfront, Koto Ward has gradually become a hub for emerging residential areas, attracting many families to move in. The area offers convenient transportation, not only connecting to the city center but also providing multiple railway lines to surrounding areas, making it one of important residential districts in Tokyo.
Highlights of the Ward
Each neighborhood in Koto Ward has its own unique character. Monzen-Nakacho, known for its strong old town atmosphere, is famous for its temples, shrines, and traditional shopping streets, such as Tomioka Hachimangu shrine, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The coastal area of Toyosu is known for its modern urban facilities, such as Toyosu Market and Toyosu Park. Recently, a new facility called Senkyakubanrai has also opened, attracting a large number of visitors. Additionally, Odaiba in the Tokyo Bay area is one of major entertainment and shopping centers in Tokyo, featuring large shopping malls, a Ferris wheel, museums, and various theme parks, making it a popular leisure destination.
